The Safety, Health and Wellbeing team supports the detention centre workforce by means of providing expert advice and support in the areas of Workplace Health and Safety, Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation and Employee Wellness.
About the role
The Safety, Health and Wellbeing (SHW) Advisor is responsible for advising and responding to workplace health and safety and organisational wellbeing across the Wacol Precinct. With a focus on implementing departmental policies and procedures on workplace health and safety and organisational wellbeing, as well as designing and implementing initiatives in these areas.
Key responsibilities
As SHW Advisor, you will specifically:
Perform the functions of Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator as outlined under the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 to assist the department to discharge its legal obligations.
Assist in the management of worker's compensation claims and rehabilitation and return to work activities.
Undertake the appropriate level of investigation, in collaboration with management, into all workplace injuries, illness and dangerous events and provide practical advice and/or recommendations/solutions for managers to enable them to prevent recurrences.
Provide information, instruction and training to management and staff on workplace health and safety and worker's compensation and rehabilitation issues, including relevant legislation and policy.
Engage in hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control activities.
Conduct/co-ordinate internal inspection and audit programs as required and report to management on the development, implementation, maintenance and effectiveness of safe systems of work.
Where required, lead or work as a member of a team, incorporating workplace health and safety functions.
You possess sound knowledge and application of the Workplace Health and Safety Act 2011, Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 and associated regulations and standards.
Provide assistance to the Principal Advisor Safety Health and Wellbeing as required.
