We are looking for a Work, Health and Safety Advisor to join our highly performing People and Culture team, reporting directly to the Chief People Officer. This is a role with real impact and has influence over safety practices that directly improve our people’s work lives.
What You’ll be doing
You’ll be the go-to expert for WHS, return-to-work management, and Workers Compensation. Think of yourself as our workplace wellbeing champion, implementing processes, coaching managers, streamlining processes, and ensuring every Story House-er returns to work safely and confidently.
- Own and refine our WHS processes, conduct audits, and keep us compliant and safety-first.
- Lead return-to-work plans, working closely with injured team members, their managers, insurers, and stakeholders to get people back to meaningful duties.
- Work with relevant stakeholders to problem-solve safety-related performance issues, address team impacts and support incident investigations with a bigger picture mindset.
- Coordinate medical and safety support, including organising GP, physio appoints and specialist appointments in consultation with our insurers and Well@SHEL program.
- Manage and report on work cover costs. Track, analyse and help drive premium reductions.
- Champion physical and psychological safety, building awareness, promote safe practices, and create a culture where wellbeing comes first.
- Research, source and arrange training in safety topics relevant to early learning and our services.
- This role will support with other P&C tasks such as auditing, adhoc projects, & backfill of P&C team members when they are on leave.
This role is a stand alone role but there are no silos in our People & Culture team! We thrive because we work together to solve problems and have an understanding of each other’s role and the goals we are working towards as a team! You might be working independently but we promise you will feel supported!

What You’ll Need
- Proven experience in a similar WHS or injury management role.
- Strong knowledge of WHS and workers' compensation legislation and practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust, connect with others, and provide supportive, solutions-focused guidance.
- A proactive mindset focused on identifying efficiencies and driving improvements.
- Hold a valid working with children check or willingness to obtain upon commencement.
