The Youth Justice Court Advice Service (YJCAS) provides knowledge and expertise that is valuable to the court and others in criminal proceedings involving young people. The Youth Justice Court Advice worker forms part of the Youth Justice Court Advice Service (YJCAS) based at the Melbourne Magistrates Court and Melbourne Children's Court.

About the role:

This role is responsible for providing expert Youth Justice advice to the Court, Youth Justice Staff, services and young people and their families. The role also provides operational support on Court advice matters to regional Youth Justice teams as required

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead day-to-day statutory supervision and case management of young people with complex needs
  • In partnership with service providers, provide information to clients, their families and carers on procedures, practices, guidelines, and legislation relating to the court and The Department.
  • Implement and review client service plans, programs and services and ensure an appropriate standard of care, supervision, safety and support is provided.
  • Implement strategies that address offending behaviour and encourage young people to comply with statutory orders
  • Advocate within the broader community on behalf of clients and their families to support inclusion, participation and respect for rights.

About you:

  • Advanced understanding of the Youth Justice system including the principles and philosophy underpinning relevant legislation and the Victorian Youth Justice program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice at an advanced level in Youth Justice Case Management and related fields
  • Understanding of the principles of case management and case work and a range of assessment and interventions relevant to a Young Person's individual circumstances
