About the role:
As an Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer (ACLO), you will be responsible for enhancing relationships between police and the local Aboriginal Community, as well as establishing effective communication and networks between the police, Aboriginal community, government, and non-government agencies.

As the Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer, your duties will include:
  • In partnership with Aboriginal community groups, develop and maintain knowledge of Aboriginal issues within the local area and maintain a contemporary knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Establish effective communication and networking between Police members, local Aboriginal community members and other government and non-government agencies.
  • Contribute to establishing effective communication and networking between Police members, local Aboriginal community members and other government and non-government agencies.
  • Establish and maintain a positive partnership environment in which Aboriginal communities are encouraged to communicate and interact with Police members to proactively resolve issues and actively promote awareness of the role of Victoria Police within Aboriginal communities.
  • Develop, implement, and deliver Cultural training programs as required.
  • Represent Victoria Police as required at relevant Aboriginal meetings, forums, or events.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of appropriate strategies to improve service delivery to customers based on customer needs.
  • Attend to welfare needs and provide support to Aboriginal persons in custody, working alongside Aboriginal Community Justice Program (ACJP) members.
  • Prepare reports, including briefing notes, correspondence for a range of internal and external stakeholders as required.
As the successful applicant, you will have:
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community, including the historical and contemporary issues impacting on the community.
  • Demonstrated community engagement and experience working with the Victorian Aboriginal community.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skill to negotiate and articulate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility, initiative, and adaptability to meet changing work requirements.

  • Full-Time, Ongoing position available
  • VPS4: $97,955 - $111,142 p.a. plus superannuation
  • The usual place of work will be Swan Hill Police Complex, 507 Campbell Street, Swan Hill.
  • Your area of responsibility incorporates the Swan Hill Police Service Area, and you may be expected to work out of any location within Western Region Division 6, as required with notice.
  • A Confirmation of Aboriginality will be required for this role.
  • For this role you will be required to apply and pay for a Working with Children Check prior to receiving a job offer. A receipt of payment is required as evidence of this.
  • You are required to possess a current Victorian Driver Licence and hold or qualify for an appropriate Victoria Police driving authority within three (3) months.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
