Where you'll be working:
Enjoy a prime coastal location at James Fletcher Hospital, just steps from Newcastle Beach, while working in a supportive and collaborative team environment led by experienced senior clinical leaders who will guide and support you throughout your role.

About the role:
As a clinician in the Substance Use in Pregnancy and Parenting Service (SUPPS), you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, client-centred care to parents navigating substance use and complex psychosocial challenges. You will conduct comprehensive, evidence-based assessments that explore factors such as attachment style, parenting capacity, mental health, and general wellbeing. Collaborating closely with the SUPPS Clinical Nurse Consultant and a supportive multidisciplinary team, you'll contribute to developing case formulations and care plans tailored to individual needs.

Your work will include coordinating outpatient appointments and delivering assertive outreach through home visiting services across the SUPPS geographical area. You'll support clients with follow-up care, provide clinical advice to families and carers, and ensure all care aligns with professional standards and evidence-based practice. This role also involves regular clinical supervision, continuous professional development, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders - especially in matters of child protection - to ensure a holistic, safe, and supportive care experience for families.

About you:
We’re looking for a passionate and committed clinician who either brings experience in, or has a strong willingness to develop, skills in drug and alcohol practice - including assessment, care planning, case management, and evidence-based counselling interventions. You’ll have a keen interest in understanding family dynamics, child development, attachment theory, and the impact of trauma on individuals and families.

The ideal candidate will be someone who values collaboration, is culturally responsive, and committed to working in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, families, and communities. Strong communication, time management, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with a proactive approach to professional development and continuous improvement. You’ll thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment and bring curiosity, empathy, and resilience to your role.

Requirements:
  • Must hold a degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer, which provides eligibility or membership of the relevant professional association and full registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), where applicable.
  • Eligible to drive in NSW and the ability and willingness to travel for work purposes which may involve driving long distances.
