An exciting opportunity exists to join the Corporate Services Division in the Assessment Applications Unit for a fixed term full-time position until 31st May, 2027. The VCAA is a statutory body responsible to the Victorian Minister for Education, serving both government and non-government schools. We provide high quality curriculum, assessment and reporting for all Victorian students birth to 18 years.
Qualifications and Experience
- Salary: $124,888 - $136,747 (Plus Superannuation of 12%)
- Fixed term till 31/05/2027
- Usual hours of work: Full time (flexible work conditions are available)
- Usual work location: East Melbourne
The Assessment Applications Unit is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and development of bespoke applications that are used in the delivery of VCE, VET, VPC and NAPLAN.
The team is part of the VCAA IT Branch, and sits within the Corporate Services Division.
Role purpose
This role looks after a lot of the day-to-day coordination of operational activities across the Assessment Applications team. The team is focussed on ongoing development and support of critical business applications.
The purpose of this role is to:
- Manage the release of changes to VCAA custom built applications, this will involve coordinating staff from within Assessment Applications Unit and across other divisions of the VCAA
- Coordinate operational and on call support for the Assessment Applications team
- Provide line management for a team of 4 Analyst/Programmers
- Prepare Executive level briefings and reports on team activities
- Plan and coordinate company wide system outage dates for maintenance and other business requirements
- Undertake procurement activities, contract management, vendor and licensing management in line with government policies and procedures
- Take a leading role in incident management and resolution for the Assessment Application Unit.
- Manage user access to custom built applications. This will include regular audits.
This role will be required to be on call during critical business periods.

Qualifications and Experience
Desirable : ITIL Certification Information Technology
Desirable : Relevant tertiary qualification Information Technology
Desirable: IT Service Desk/2nd level/3rd level management experience – team management, work allocation and reporting
Desirable: Solid understanding of IT architecture components – network and firewalls, unix and windows servers, Oracle and SQL database, application server, code management/compiling/deployment, application monitoring, packaging and deployment practices.
Desirable: Training and experience in Government procurement processes, contract, vendor and licensing management
