About the role
In this role, you will be part of our planting team, responsible for planting between 2,500-3,000 new trees annually around Geelong. Your focus will be on ensuring proper tree establishment, overseeing correct planting procedures, and caring for them during their critical first two years. This ensures they mature into canopy trees, providing essential shade for our streets. This is a great opportunity for an aspiring arborist to gain on the job training and gaining an industry qualification.
Work type: Temporary Full Time (4 months)
Classification: Band 2 Commencing at $62,806 pa plus super (unqualified), Band 3 Commencing at $64,827 pa plus super (qualified)
Key responsibilities include:
- Undertake tree planting and establishment maintenance works in accordance with current industry best practice and standards.
- Assess the condition of Council’s trees to identify structural defects or health issues.
- Operate and maintain plant and equipment including trucks, chippers, elevated work platforms and general arboricultural equipment in an effective manner, in compliance with Council standards, appropriate laws, OH&S regulations and Australian Standards.
- Identify and perform minor maintenance on plant such as chainsaw sharpening, cleaning air filters, making new chains, changing blades on wood chipper etc.
- Complete administrative tasks associated with arboricultural duties.
- Accurately collect and enter data into tree database.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a Certificate III in Arboriculture or similar, or a genuine passion for trees and tree care with the commitment to undertake funded, off-site training to gain your qualification. Qualified aborist will also have the following:
- Working knowledge of arboriculture practices with practical experience in tree maintenance and tree removals.
- Demonstrated ability to interact courteously and professionally with ratepayers, stakeholders and community members.
- Knowledge of Energy Safe Line Clearing Regulations and line clearing procedures.
- Ability to assess the health and structure of trees.
- A current employee Working with Children check.
- Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check and a pre-employment medical assessment as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
