St Barnabas Broadway (Barneys) is seeking a capable leader to oversee the strategy, operations and ministry of our university residences (Arundel House and the St Barnabas Terraces). The nature of Arundel House means that this role would particularly suit a woman, or may be shared by a couple.
The role is 4 days/week, assisted by a 2 day/week Assistant Director, as well as administration and support staff. The Director is not expected to live on-site.
About us
Barneys is a growing inner-city Anglican church situated between the University of Sydney, University of Technology, Sydney and Ultimo TAFE, and opposite the University of Notre Dame. We are evangelical and Reformed in keeping with the Book of Common Prayer.
Our mission is to make and form disciples of Christ who will glorify and enjoy God in all of life, for all of their lives. We are a river church – we evangelise, train and equip, and then send out again, with a vision for growing the whole Kingdom of God – with ministries to students, families and workers that are joyfully international.
The opportunity
We are looking for a theologically trained, suitably experienced ordained or lay person to oversee the operations of and ministry within our Barneys student residences: the Terraces on Glebe Point Rd, and Arundel House opposite the University of Sydney, with a total capacity of almost 65 residents.
These residences provide safe, accessibly priced accommodation in Christian community for first and second year university students who are new to Sydney, with a vision for both evangelism and discipleship, as well as helping young adults to grow and mature. The residences are an extension of Barneys’ university ministry, and provide deeper opportunities to invest in those who live here.
We welcome applicants with a broad experience base for this exciting new position on the Barneys staff team.
Your stipend will be in accordance with diocesan remuneration guidelines, including housing and other allowances, based on experience and qualifications.
Key responsibilities
Reporting to the Rector, you will oversee the staff and key student leaders in cultivating a safe and welcoming community where gospel opportunities abound. You will appoint and support senior residents, and work with them to promote a healthy community life and ensure the welfare of the residents, including by upholding policies and standards. You will contribute to our broader university ministry team. And you will work with the administration team to attract and select new incoming residents to maintain overall occupancy.
This is an opportunity to invest deeply into a well-defined group of young adults, and through them, into locally resident students throughout the local area.
About you
You must possess a strong Christian character, demonstrating prayerfulness, grace, and a love for Christ and the church.
You must have settled evangelical convictions, and be eligible to be licensed or authorised by the Archbishop of Sydney.
You will be highly relational and hospitable, able to manage conflict well, and lead by example. You must have demonstrated capacity to work independently and with initiative, as well as work well with a team. You will ideally have extensive experience working with young adults.
To apply, please submit your resume with a cover letter to our Administration Manager: [email protected].
