Concord Repatriation General Hospital is a 650 bed teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. The hospital has a long tradition of providing care to the Veteran community and today provides health care to the inner west of Sydney. Concord Hospital has the well-earned reputation of the collegiate hospital whose spirit of camaraderie and cooperation pervades the work and teaching environment.

The high morale amongst the medical staff and the consistent success at the various college examinations are reflections of the priority given to career development. The hospital has an impressive track record in Physician training and is recognised as one of the leading hospitals in producing successful candidates at the FRACP examinations.
The Concord BPT Network consists of 4 training sites, each with their own unique and valuable training experience. There are training rotations in Concord Repatriation General Hospital, The Canterbury Hospital, Blue Mountains Hospital and The Tweed Hospital.

What you'll be doing

The primary purpose of the Basic Physician Trainee (BPT) is to provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice in a complex clinical environment in inpatient and outpatient areas in the public health organisations within the Network.

Basic Physician Training roles consist of rotations through medical departments, working under an appropriate level of supervision by consultants. Rotations have different levels of responsibility and team structures. BPTs will gain increasing clinical autonomy and accountability as team leaders throughout the course of the three-year training program, building on their skills and attributes with the goal of entering an Advanced Training program.

BPTs undertaking the care of medical patients should ensure that they operate within their own level of expertise within a collaborative clinical care model and to seek consultation with the treating physician when appropriate, in the following activities:
