Manage genomics specific laboratory hardware and software. Oversee high performance computing used within the laboratories, including cloud computing.
Develop and maintain bioinformatics programs and pipelines in collaboration with scientists of PEHRL. Write, test, debug and implement custom in-house software for genetic analysis of virus, bacterial and other biological or environmental samples.
Assist and train scientists with integrating next generation sequencing equipment with high throughput analysis computing tools, including in the cloud environment.
Manage in-house nucleic acid sequence and other genomic databases and interfaces with LIMS.
Liaise with Queensland Health IT support staff including staff that manage the Queensland Health Genomics Compute Platform.
Assist laboratories with ensuring computing and bioinformatics analysis is compliant with all standards and regulations including NATA/ISO 17025/ISO 15189/NPAAC.
About you
We are searching for someone who has:
A Bachelor in Computer Science, Science, Bioinformatics or relevant fields.
The possession of a postgraduate qualification majoring in Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics and/or Genomics while not mandatory would be well regarded.
Or can obtain an Australian Federal Police security clearance which is a mandatory requirement.
Demonstrated knowledge of UNIX like operating systems and command line operated software.
Demonstrated proficiency in programming languages (R, Python, Bash etc).
Demonstrated expertise with writing, testing and implementing bioinformatic analysis and pipelines. Familiarity with nextflow and snakemake would be viewed favourably.
Experience with high performance computing including cloud computing and database management. Experience with the AWS cloud environment would be viewed favourably.
Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of autonomy in a multidisciplinary team, while prioritising workload and meeting deadlines.
Experience or knowledge of the bioinformatic analysis and LIMS related workflow of bacterial and/or viral genomes is desirable.
