Job Description
The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for a Buildings Department Lead to come and join our team in Melbourne. In this key role you drive the strategic and technical direction of building projects, ensuring innovative, compliant, and cost-effective design solutions. This role blends leadership with hands-on expertise—overseeing project delivery, managing risk, identifying opportunities, and championing digital engineering.
With a strong focus on collaboration, mentoring, and continuous improvement, the Lead ensures high-quality outcomes, on time and on budget, while fostering a culture of excellence across disciplines.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and manage updates to drawings and documentation, including mark-ups and submission of as-built drawings as required.
- Prepare and review project estimates under supervision, ensuring they are accurate, consistent, and aligned with scope and budget.
- Identify and escalate design issues promptly to the Head of Engineering or relevant Project Manager.
- Represent the Buildings Department in client meetings, providing technical input and maintaining a professional presence.
- Analyse technical data to determine time, cost, and labour requirements, and communicate key details during project handovers.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Proven experience in delivering end-to-end design and construction of building projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in building engineering, complemented by a master’s degree in BIM Management.
- Advanced Diploma in Civil Works and Building Project Management, along with a Certificate in Leadership and Management.
- Strong proficiency in industry-standard software and IT systems, including WALLAP, CAPWAP, PIT-W, MS Project, Excel, Word, AutoCAD, and various geotechnical and structural applications.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate technical expertise with leadership and project coordination across multidisciplinary teams.
