Where you'll be working:
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Mental Health Clinician to join our supportive and dynamic team at Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) New England North West (NENW). There are opportunities available in both Tamworth and Armidale however, you may be required to travel to other parts of the NENW within work time. CAMHS is a specialist mental health service that assesses and treats young people 0 – 17 years of age and their families/carers who are living in the HNE Local Health District (LHD). Young people referred to the service have complex and severe mental health problems that significantly impact on most aspects of their functioning and development. Please note there are 2 opportunities available with location details of each below:

  • There is a fulltime (1FTE) position available based in Armidale at Clair House until November 2026.
  • There is a parttime (0.5FTE) position available based in Tamworth at Dean House until April 2026


About the role:

As a Mental Health Clinician within Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service you will provide a high-quality assessment, treatment and case coordination service to children, young people, and their families/caregivers. You will also provide discipline specific expertise to the multi-disciplinary team discussion and work alongside a supportive team of Psychiatry, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, and Dietetic disciplines.

In Hunter New England CAMHS, we provide Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Family Based Assessments. Our model of care supports individual, dyadic and family therapy treatment with specialised support within the team and in supervision.

The support provided within the team, our CAMHS network and other partners creates an effective workplace to specialised intervention for complex presentations.

The role of a Mental Health Clinician at CAMHS includes:

  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team model to provide specialist person centred clinical intervention to children/young people and their families/carers, to ensure delivery of innovative and developmentally appropriate clinical practice and therapeutic interventions.
  • Participate in the delivery of trauma informed care and its application in working with children/young people with mental health concerns and their families /carers.
  • Exercise independent professional judgement.
  • Ensure the care delivered sits within professional, organisational, legal, and ethical boundaries and reflects evidence based, best practice knowledge and embraces a collaborative, client centred, family and culturally sensitive approach.
  • Identify and act on opportunities for improvement in clinical practice and participate in initiatives to enhance service delivery and consumer outcomes.
  • Work semi-autonomously on tasks related to assessment, formulation & clinical documentation.


As part of our supportive team, you'll receive direct line management and guidance from the CAMHS New England North West Team Leader as well as experienced psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, and C&A Psychiatrists who work as part of the MDT. Additionally, you'll benefit from regular clinical supervision and access to continuous training and educational programs, all designed to enhance your professional development and ensure your success in this role.

Requirements:

  • Must hold a qualification in one of the following: Occupational Therapy, Clin Psychology/clin psych in training, Nursing, Social Work, Counsellor (Degree in Bachelor of Health Science Mental health, Djirruwang Program), Nutrition and Dietetics which provides eligibility or membership of the relevant professional association general registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency or relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years’ experience working in the clinical area of their specified post-graduate qualification, or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate by the service.
  • Eligibility to drive in NSW and interstate and the willingness to travel in the course of employment.
