Central Coast Local Heath District (CCLHD) are looking for compassionate, motivated individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges and/or suicidal distress to join our Suicide Prevention team as a Peer Worker.
Your unique experiences will offer hope, understanding, and support to others navigating similar challenges.
About the Role
- As a Peer Worker, you will use your personal journey to build trusting relationships and provide one-to-one and group-based support to individuals at risk of suicide or experiencing emotional crisis. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary mental health team, your role will be vital in creating safe spaces for recovery and connection.
- You will Identify consumers at risk of admission to hospital and provide Step-Up care communication with staff in Outreach Teams for crisis follow up.
- You will identify consumers in need of ongoing care beyond the scope of the program and provide Step-Down care referrals to supports in community managed organisations, primary health networks and private practice.
- Document consumer contact using a non-clinical, strengths-based format that is integrated into eMR

About You
- Attainment of the Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (Consumer), or successful completion of Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (Carer) within 18 months of commencing position.
- Demonstrated experience using recovery-oriented and trauma-informed principles in providing support to consumers.
- Understanding of the suicide prevention sector and the ability to utilise appropriate suicide prevention supports such as safety planning, managing risk (including promoting dignity of risk) etc.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to plan, implement and evaluate individual and group peer support
- Working with Children's Check
- Current unrestricted NSW Driver's Licence
