What you'll be doing
Western Sydney Local Health District is seeking a Peer Worker to join our dedicated Mental Health Services team, supporting consumers in acute and community settings on their recovery journey.

  • Provide individual and group peer support across inpatient and community services
  • Offer advocacy at review tribunals and key appointments
  • Promote recovery through values of hope, empathy, equality and empowerment
  • Collaborate in service co-design and represent the consumer voice
  • Educate staff and consumers about peer services and recovery principles

How to Apply
Apply online by submitting your resume and addressing the criteria listed below by providing examples that demonstrate your ability before the closing date.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the scope of a WSLHD Peer Worker role and the ability to provide a peer service with the Consumer at the centre of care. Demonstrated ability to use initiative to be able to create and codesign peer-based activities.
  • Demonstrated examples of adaptability, honesty, authenticity, willingness to learn and being non-judgmental to assist you to validate and listen as essential skills in the peer worker role.
  • Have your own lived and living experience of mental ill health and demonstrated recovery strategies including using mental health services as well as identifying as a mental health Consumer. Demonstrated ability to individually advocate and systemically advocate for mental health consumers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with reporting structures and work as part of the Peer Services team and multidisciplinary teams. Willingness to undertake Certificate IV Mental Health Consumer Peer Work course with MHCC. Course to be completed within 18 months of starting Peer Work employment.
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills, including the use of Microsoft office and online platforms e.g., teams. Demonstrated efficient organisational, time management and planning skills to organise one’s workload and delegated responsibilities.
  • Have a current driver’s license and be able to work across different locations in WSLHD.
