The opportunity
- The Commercial Manager Delivery is responsible for delivering commercial strategy, optimising revenue opportunities, mitigating project risk, and managing key contracts and stakeholder relationships. This role involves commercial planning, financial oversight of projects, negotiating major contracts, driving program performance and ensuring profitable business growth in alignment with organisational goals.
- The Commercial Manager – Delivery will have leadership and accountability of the Contracts team on the Program (and others as required), acting as the initial escalation point for commercial, contract delivery, legal, procurement, subcontract performance, financial, project risk and opportunity, governance and project requirements. What you’ll do
- Work collaboratively with Unitywater stakeholders, the PSP (Design Partners), the other Program Partners and any other relevant stakeholders to achieve the best solutions and outcomes for BBT
- Support the review of all commercial (and input to technical) risks associated with the preparation of bids to ensure that such risks are adequately identified, assessed and actioned by the bid teams
- Liaise with the Senior Commercial Manager - Unitywater when engaging with Downer Group legal representatives on activities requiring legal review in accordance with the Downer Governance requirements.
- Support in the effective handover of the commercial aspects of all secured work to the Contracts and delivery teams in a manner that ensures Downer’s contractual rights and obligations are fully understood, both for head contracts and subcontracts in accordance with the Downer Standard
- Mentor and coach key personnel on terms and conditions such as Contract Administrators, Project Managers and Project Engineers.
- Demonstrate leadership, expert advice and collaboration with Contracts and delivery teams for the delivery of contracts and projects, including acting as the interim escalation point of contact for commercial and contract requirements.
- Facilitate regular (monthly) risk reviews where appropriate, or leadership for the team to facilitate risk reviews for projects and contracts.

What we’re looking for
- A tertiary / post-graduate qualification in Commercial / Contract Management or related discipline (e.g. finance, contract law, etc.) is preferred.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in the construction industry (or related areas), and five years in a related role would be beneficial.
- Demonstrable and successful commercial management experience / capability in a similar business environment with at least 5 years’ experience gained at this level
- Background in leadership of complex and comprehensive commercial teams.
- Understanding of the Australian construction market and its forms of contract.
- A high level of verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with a wide variety of people including managing relationships with external clients / suppliers / contractors, etc.
