Our Technical, Advisory, and Capability practice and Team Downer serves as one of the Major Service Providers delivering consulting services and Integrated Work Packages across the Department of Defence, leveraging innovative approaches such as mission and digital engineering to enable the successful delivery of critical Defence programs.

This includes collaboration with key Defence entities, including Defence Digital Group (DDG), National Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG), Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG), and branches across the Navy, Army, and Air Force .

We are currently seeking an experienced Configuration Manager for with relevant knowledge of the Defence Capability Life Cycle (CLC) and Fundamental Inputs to Capability (FIC) to operate as an embedded part of the CA40 team.

If successful in securing a role, your work may involve:

  • Configuration Management – Perform, tailor, and manage complex configuration activities for multiple systems, ensuring technical compliance and quality.
  • Governance & Audits – Lead Configuration Control Board (CCB) sessions, manage audits, and oversee CSA reporting to maintain regulatory standards.
  • Risk & Safety Management – Identify and mitigate technical risks while ensuring safety is integrated into design, testing, and operational processes.
  • Process & Documentation – Administer Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), maintain Configuration Management Plans (CMPs), and drive continuous improvement.
  • Technical Leadership – Exercise technical authority, maintain integrity registers, and influence resource allocation for strategic outcomes.

Our work is highly complex and confidential; applicants must be Australian citizens with a minimum NV1 security clearance. Additionally, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may be necessary. In some cases, this may impose restrictions individuals who are dual citizens, permanent residency, or former nationality of specific countries as outlined in ITAR 126.1.

We are seeking candidates with defence industry experience in the follow areas:

  • Configuration Management Expertise – To manage and optimise Defence Configuration Management processes.
  • Systems & Tools Proficiency – Work with key Defence applications, including Configuration Management Tool Land (CMT-L), ERP SAP S/4HANA, and OpenText.
  • Project & Compliance Management – Support engineering initiatives in Defence and CASG projects, including Systems Engineering Management Plans, Technical Certification, and Requirements Management.
  • Governance & Sustainment – Conduct CSAR audits, Configuration Control Boards (CCBs), and support Defence sustainment programs.
  • Strategic Defence Knowledge – Leverage an understanding of Defence’s Capability Life Cycle (CLC) and Fundamental Inputs to Capability (FIC) for effective decision-making.
