The Department
Position Objective
The Student Services Officer works closely with the Library and CUC Manager in the identification and
development of student engagement initiatives at CUC Hughenden. The Student Services Officer delivers
the Learning Skills Advisor program providing a comprehensive range of student engagement strategies
providing academic and learning skills, to regional students studying university-level courses. The Student
Services Officer works as part of a team to enhance student learning experiences through a holistic
approach to student support, including the provision of tailored one-on-one and group sessions.

Key Responsibilities
CUC Operations
- Establish and maintain a supportive and collaborative student environment with a focus on student
- Being alert to students who may be struggling academically and/or personally, or otherwise at-risk
- Enhance students' engagement, self-efficacy, well-being, and retention by implementing
one-on-one academic mentoring covering referencing, writing, assessment, and study skills,
alongside group sessions and workshops when suitable.
- Assist with the delivery, evaluation and reporting requirements of funded programs and projects.
- Coordinate with external parties to organise education and engagement activities, ensuring the
systems and networks.
- Represent the CUC at relevant community events to build and maintain community awareness and
- Build and maintain strong working relationships and collaborate with industry stakeholders to
- Develop Centre-specific processes/procedures where required to improve the Centre’s service
Reporting
- Monitor, track and report on the status of project deliverables to ensure time, cost and quality metrics
- Assess and manage project risks and issues and provide solutions where applicable.
- Work with the Centre Manager and colleagues at CUC Central on evaluation of programs
- Provide Centre Manager with clear and timely information to enable proactive management of the

- Ensure all centre users are aware of and comply with all current CUC Hughenden policies and
- Regularly inspect facilities and act immediately to resolve or report issues or potential safety risks

Promotion and Marketing
- Support Centre Manager to market and promote Library and CUC services via a diverse range of
- Support Centre Manager to develop outreach programs, promotional and other activities that are

External Relationships
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities including CUC Central
- Represent CUC services at local network and advisory group meetings, as required
- Partner with community organisations as required to delivery key projects and services to support

- This position operates from Hughenden CUC based in Hughenden, however, may be required to
requirements of the role.
- Travel (including outside of normal hours) to attend training may be required
- The incumbent must be:
- prepared to work flexible hours to meet the requirements of the position
- willing to obtain a ‘Suitability (Blue) Card’ to enable the incumbent to work with or supervise
- medically fit and physically capable to meet requirements of the position
- Prepared, if required, to undertake a medical assessment by Council’s medical practitioner;
- Prepared, if required, for Council to undertake a Criminal History Check
Organisational Relationships and Delegations
Internal: Community Services & Wellbeing Team and other portfolios across Council
External: Community groups, education facilities, general public, government departments, contractors,
suppliers and other Local Government regions
Delegations: The CUC Student Services Officer works under direction of the Library and CUC Manager, and
has the skills to manage time and organisational priorities. This position has no delegated decision making
and purchasing authority in accordance with Council's Delegation Register and Procurement Policy.
Selection Criteria
Essential
1. Undergraduate degree (preferred humanities, such as Education, Arts, Social Sciences, Linguistics or
similar), or relevant experience
2. High level communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal), with strong ability to consult
and negotiate especially when dealing with stakeholders and partners.
3. Strong organisational and administrative skills and demonstrated ability to prioritise workload and
meet strict deadlines while working in a high volume, process driven environment with variable
workflow patterns.
4. Passionate and enthusiastic about creating opportunities for regional students.
5. Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media knowledge.
6. The ability to work effectively and productively in a team environment
7. Demonstrated presentation skills and ability to facilitate workshops and group study sessions
8. Commitment to uphold Council’s Code of Conduct, Workplace Health and Safety and Anti-
Discrimination policies.
Desirable
9. Demonstrated experience in a similar role.
10. Current CPR and First Aid certificate, or willingness to obtain.
