We are seeking a Data Science Chapter Lead to be a hands-on leader for our team of talented data scientists. In this role, you will be responsible for the technical and professional development of the team, ensuring they have the skills and resources to deliver high-quality, impactful work. You will also play a critical role in shaping our enterprise-wide AI strategy, working closely with senior leadership to identify and prioritise opportunities across various business domains.
You’ll also be expanding our capabilities into important areas like marketing and fraud, driving customer-focused solutions in partnership with our Product and Sales teams. This is a unique opportunity to mature our data science practice alongside a cloud native transformation while leading an incredibly talented team directly influencing Equifax’s global initiatives. This role can be based either Melbourne or Sydney.
What You Will Do
As an experienced people leader, you'll build, mentor, and coach a team of data scientists. You'll be passionate about their individual and team development, fostering a culture of curiosity and continuous learning.
Actively contribute to our global enterprise AI strategy, collaborating with product and technology teams to drive the regional roadmap for exploration and adoption.
Own the technical direction for the Data Science chapter, embedding industry best practices into the organization and ensuring the team builds the best solutions.
Work closely with other Data and Analytics functions to deliver end-to-end solutions, ranging from BAU activities to complex data transformation projects. You’ll be a trusted technical advisor, capable of translating complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes.
Build relationships across all verticals of the organisation and communicate the value of data science and AI to senior executives and stakeholders across our broader business, including Product, Sales, Operations and more. You'll keep them up-to-date on data science advancements and opportunities, acting as a champion for the team's work and advocating for resources.
You will have high familiarity with agile chapters and be able to work within a matrixed environment, strategically influencing outcomes and fostering strong relationships with internal stakeholders.
What Experience Do You Need
Demonstrated record of building, mentoring and developing data science teams in a corporate environment.
10+ yrs of experience with a solid understanding of data science industry best practices, model building, and a passion for staying up-to-date with new advancements.
The ability to understand business drivers and align technical strategy to achieve them, balancing technical excellence with business outcomes.
Extensive experience of working effectively with other Data & Analytics, Product, and Technology functions to deliver cohesive, end-to-end solutions.
Proven ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior executives.
Strong experience working in agile chapters and working in a matrixed environment to strategically influence.
Passion for continuous improvement and a mindset of curiosity.
