Seppeltsfield Road Distillers, a world-famous Barossa distillery known for producing premium gin and brandy, is seeking a passionate and experienced Distiller/Winemaker and Production Manager to join our dynamic, gin-loving crew. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of production, including distilling, blending, quality control, packaging, warehouse management, stock control, and site operations. The role is a hands-on production and operational management role including customer facing communications. This is a fantastic opportunity to take the lead in a growing and innovative team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Winemaking, distilling, blending and barrel management: Manage all production processes, ensuring consistency, quality, and efficiency. Oversee maturation and barrel management for our brandy program to create distinctive, high-quality spirits.
- Production & Quality Control: Maintain high production standards, focusing on quality control throughout the production process. Regularly test and monitor products to ensure they meet Seppeltsfield Road Distillers' renowned quality standards.
- Warehouse Management & Stock Control: Oversee warehouse operations, including the management of raw materials, finished products, and packaging inventory. Ensure efficient stock control, proper storage, and accurate record-keeping to minimise waste and maximise production efficiency.
- Bottling Preparation: Prepare products for the bottling line, ensuring everything is in place for smooth, timely production runs.
- Planning & Forecasting: Collaborate with senior management to plan and forecast production schedules. Develop strategies to optimise resources and capacity, ensuring production goals are met while minimising delays.
- Purchasing & Supply Chain Management: Source and purchase raw materials for production, ensuring the distillery has a steady supply of high-quality ingredients. Manage relationships with suppliers and ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Site Management & Maintenance: Oversee the daily operations and maintenance of the distillery site, ensuring all equipment is functioning correctly and efficiently. Coordinate with maintenance teams to schedule regular checks and repairs.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all safety and regulatory standards are adhered to, creating a safe work environment. Maintain accurate records to meet ATO standards and other relevant compliance regulations.
- Collaboration & Innovation: Work closely with other team members, to develop new product ideas and strategies. Stay current on industry trends, techniques, and innovations to continuously improve production methods. Participate in tastings and presentations, representing Seppeltsfield Road Distillers at events and to stakeholders and work in the Tasting Room.
Key Requirements:
- Experience in Beer, Wine, or Spirit Making: Previous experience in a production environment, with a strong preference for distillation knowledge in gin and brandy.
- Forklift Licence: A valid forklift licence is essential.
- Sensory skills – for tasting and evaluating spirits
- Computer Literacy and record keeping: Proficient in using computers and relevant software (e.g., Microsoft Office, production management systems, inventory control systems). Accurate and compliant record keeping for the ATO.
- Attention to Detail: A high level of accuracy and attention to detail in production processes, stock control, and record-keeping.
- Strong Leadership & Communication Skills: Ability to manage a team effectively, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to Work Independently & as Part of a Team: Self-motivated, with the ability to work under pressure, while also being a team player.
- A Commitment to Quality & Safety: Ensure all safety procedures are followed and uphold the highest quality in all aspects of production.
- Customer-Facing Experience: Comfortable interacting with customers at events, in our tasting room, providing an exceptional experience, and sharing the story of Seppeltsfield Road Distillers’ products.
- Relevant qualifications in distillation, winemaking or food science are desirable.
