This is a temporarily funded position until 25 June 2028 with the possibility of an extension subject to funding.

The Dual Diagnosis Peer Worker position is a based in the Emergency Department who works with the Mental Health Emergency Teams to enhance outcomes for individuals with a Dual Diagnosis. The position requires the person to have a lived experience of mental health and drug and/or alcohol issues.


The position will provide an effective link between consumers/ carers, clinicians and services, with a focus on improving the consumer journey and treatment outcomes whilst providing advocacy and support.


The Peer worker will be able to develop strong and effective stakeholder partnerships, including liaison with families and/or carers.


This role is required to work weekends and afterhours. Whilst the position is based at Wollongong Hospital it may be expected to travel across the district as needed.

Wollongong Hospital, located on Dharawal Country, is the Illawarra Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed-base count of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.
