Role

Copperfield College is situated within the council of Brimbank in an area characterised by rapid housing growth and development. A three-campus college, the locations are:


  • Kings Park Junior (Year 7-10) campus at Kambalda Circuit, Kings Park (population approx. (590).

  • Delahey Senior (10-12) campus (population approx.680) at Goldsmith Avenue, Delahey. This is two kilometres north of the junior campus.

  • Sydenham Junior (Years 7-10) campus at Community Hub, Sydenham (population approx.630). It is located 3 kilometres north of the senior campus.

With students coming from some forty different national/ethnic backgrounds, the College is strongly multi-cultural and proud of the working harmony existing among all these groups.

As the Maintenance person, you will be based at one campus, but be prepared to perform all associated tasks as required over the 3 college properties when the need arises. Each campus has a Maintenance person allocated.

This position is for 5 days per week, with 4 weeks annual leave.

At this level, the officer is directly accountable to the Facilities Manager, but will take instructions and direction on a day to day basis from the Campus Principals in conjunction with the Facilities Manager.

Responsibilities


  • Communicate with all key stakeholders about school policies including OHS, and other Department procedures.
  • Follow established procedures and guidelines as per the College¿s protocols.
  • Perform general maintenance/repair tasks on buildings, equipment and grounds, which will involve manual lifting and handling.
  • Communicate with appropriate personnel in relation to college items requiring repairs/maintenance and be able to prioritise the workload.
  • Maintain the physical environment in the college, in line with Occupational Health and Safety regulations. This may include some cleaning (sweeping/blowing) and painting duties.
  • Set up spaces for student assemblies in liaison with Campus Principals and leadership staff.
  • Provide transportation/relocation support for goods and materials between campuses when required.
  • Act as the support person to the College¿s Facilities Manager.
  • Preparedness to cover staff absences in opening the campus each morning and ensuring the campus is in a tidy, presentable state.
  • Assist in planning and implementing the building and maintenance program within the college during school vacation periods, which may include working with the other campus maintenance staff and/or the College gardener.

College Profile

Copperfield College is a multi-campus school situated in Melbourne¿s North-West. The College is comprised of two junior campuses (Years 7-10) in Kings Park and Sydenham and a senior campus (Years 11-12) at Delahey. We have a student population of approximately 2,000, with 180 (EFT) teaching staff, 70 (EFT) Education Support Staff and 7 Principal Class personnel. The SFOE for the College is 0.58, indicating a significant level of social disadvantage.

The College is culturally diverse, reflecting our community, with approximately 60% of our students coming from a Language Background other than English. Copperfield performs to expectations and better on many measures in comparison with `like¿ schools; in particular, our VCE outcomes.

The college¿s mission is `to empower every student to aspire and achieve¿ which is a clear focus in our new College Strategic Plan which can be found along with the 2024 AIP and the 2023 Annual Report, on our website www.copperfieldcollege.vic.edu.au. Our current plans aim at delivering high quality educational outcomes with low in-school variation in everything we do through a Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum. Our Strategic Plan has a major focus on building the capacity of every teacher to work collaboratively in Professional Learning Teams to provide differentiated learning challenges to every student. Copperfield is a large provider of VET in Schools and a key member of the Brimbank VET Cluster. We are the lead school in a Technical Trade Centre, hosting VET Automotive, VET Electrotechnology and a range of other VET subjects. The College also emphasises the importance of a robust co-curricular and student leadership program. Copperfield has managed to sustain a stable International Student Program and there are currently 36 international students across the College. English as an Addition Language (EAL) is taught at all campuses as are two LOTEs, one of which is supported by a 20+ year old sister school relationship with Fuji Junior High School in Japan.
