About the role
The EL1 Assistant Director, Covert Technical Operations works closely with the Director Technical Operations and is at the forefront of the ACIC’s covert technical intelligence capabilities supporting operational requirements through their specialist skills in operational technology, tradecraft and risk management. This position requires an experienced technologist who is capable of leading a national team of Technical Specialists in what can be high risk and pressure operational environments. The Assistant Director of Covert Technical Operations at the ACIC is therefore required to work collaboratively as part of a small and diverse team, and to foster strong relationships with NIC and law enforcement counterparts and trusted industry partners.
Previous experience in operational technology roles within intelligence, law enforcement and/or the military is highly desirable.

Demonstrated experience within STEM technology fields, including but not limited to:
o Electronics;
o Computer science;
o Engineering;
o Computer networking;
o Radio frequency;
o Physical security and Alarm system infrastructure; and/or
- Demonstrated experience with operational technology and operational risk management within an intelligence or evidentiary collection environment.
- Demonstrated experience in the planning and deployment of technical solutions for lawful surveillance capabilities.
- Provides expertise in translating business requirements from technical and non-technical users into the design of appropriate solutions and displays a high-level of technical ability.
- Demonstrates experience in, and a detailed working knowledge of surveillance technology, covert operational tradecraft, telecommunications and computer networks.
- Maintains a detailed understanding of hardware and software architectures and network management.
- Works well and can lead in a small team environment under operational pressures requiring the application of lateral thinking and sound independent judgement.

- Citizenship – To be eligible for employment with the ACIC, applicants must be an Australian citizen.
- Security Clearance - The Australian community expects ACIC employees to maintain the highest levels of security and integrity. Successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance.
