About the Project
This role offers an exciting opportunity to join the highly successful Southern Program Alliance, contracted by the Victorian Government to remove some of Melbourne’s most dangerous and congested level crossings. This is a critical infrastructure initiative with significant public impact across the metropolitan area.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled and technically proficient Engineering Coordinator – Signalling to lead and support the delivery of complex rail signalling projects. This role is essential to ensuring the successful execution of signalling design, integration, and delivery in accordance with the Project Requirements Specification & ARO standards as well as opportunities to shape the solution of future critical Rail projects.
You will play a key role in guiding design teams, managing safety and risk discussions, and overseeing the preparation of system documentation across a multitude of different Victorian interlocking technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Support signalling design teams across the project to meet all technical and delivery milestones
- Lead Stakeholder workshops, Oversee & manage Integrated Design Reviews (IDRs) and Safety in Design (SiD) risk assessments during design meetings
- Prepare and maintain design submission forecasts aligned with project schedules
- Oversee the development of system documentation including SyRS, RAATM, and other technical deliverables
- Provide design checking and quality assurance for packages across the Western, North Western, and South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne
- Coordinate CBI interlocking design (Smartlock 400GP, SSI, Westlock, Westrace MKI & II, VHLC and Elctrologix) and integration activities
- Coordinate Communication Architectures and OCMS Systems including train control and integration activities
- Resolve major (Category 3) design review comments and manage RFIs across stakeholders including Design, LXRG, and Construction Delivery teams
- Provide technical signalling advice to both design and delivery teams
- Contribute to signalling and communications EC workshops
- Support quality assurance during occupations and completions (Red Line Drawings, As-Built Drawings, DMS, DLP and Asset handover)
- Conduct critical path reviews, identify commercial risks, and develop mitigation strategies
- Facilitate risk mitigation workshops and streamline approval processes
- Lead constructability and value engineering sessions, managing design change control processes
- Balance design growth with cost and schedule constraints, anticipating constructability challenges
Required Skills and Competencies
- Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building, or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in signalling delivery for infrastructure projects
- Minimum 2 years’ demonstrated experience on a Level Crossing Removal Project
- Proven experience in signalling and communications design and engineering
- Technical expertise in electrical, civil, structural, and rail engineering operations
- Hands-on experience with Victorian interlocking systems
- Strong understanding of MTM standards and signalling documentation requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Project essential; Primavera P6 advantageous)
- Ability to identify and mitigate design risks proactively
- Valid Construction Induction (White Card) and Rail Industry Worker (RIW) Card with current competencies and medical clearance
