Aquatic Culture is one of Australia's largest ornamental fish farms that produces a wide range of freshwater fish species to supply the aquarium trade.
We have a full-time position available for farm manager with an immediate start. It is a minimum two-year contract with the potential for extension to a five-year contract based on performance. You must be prepared to relocate to Far North Queensland, near Innisfail, or live locally. You must have skilled in-depth, hands-on experience in fish husbandry and preferably in the farming of freshwater ornamental fish.
Candidates with aquaculture experience or certification will have a favourable standing. You must be a self-starter, hands-on worker with strong observational and problem-solving skills. You must be highly organised with a strong attention for detail. Candidates must be handy with the ability to resolve, repair, maintain the farm in good working order.
The position will also require you to manage up to three assisting staff, which requires strong communication skills, both spoken and written. You must be adaptable and able to manage live fish, which will require flexibility and dedication of your time (including extraordinary timeframes).
Australian full Driver Licence is required as fish will need to be delivered to Cairns airport twice a week. Experience in using farm machinery such as generators, bore pumps, tractors, slashers and ride on mowers would be preferred.
Onsite training will be provided, but a strong base knowledge and understanding of the foundations of fish husbandry and livestock management will be required. This includes water chemistry, aquatic husbandry, fish species identification, disease monitoring and treatment, fish handling, order processing and packaging.
Accommodation in the farmhouse can also be provided if required, at a small fee.
