We are seeking a strategic and results-driven leader to join our organisation as the Head of Enterprise Collections Risk, reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO). This role is responsible for developing and executing the enterprise-wide credit risk strategy for accounts in arrears, with a focus on optimising collections performance and loss recovery across our credit card and lending portfolios.
The role also plays a critical part in driving innovation through strategic projects, including the adoption of new technology. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in credit risk management, collections analytics, and regulatory compliance, with a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage third-party partnerships.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for:
Strategic Leadership:
- Define and lead the enterprise collections risk strategy across all consumer credit products in Australia and New Zealand.
- Develop and implement segmentation strategies for delinquent accounts to optimise collections effectiveness and customer outcomes.
- Lead key strategic initiatives to modernise collections capabilities, including the use of AI, machine learning, and digital engagement tools through third-party vendors.
- Lead and optimise the organisation’s debt sale strategy to maximise recoveries and minimise risk.
Vendor & Partnership Oversight:
- Manage key partnerships with outsourced debt collection agencies and third-party recovery providers.
- Establish performance metrics, service level agreements (SLAs), and compliance standards for external partners.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and audits to ensure alignment with strategic goals and regulatory expectations.
- Risk Management & Analytics:
- Analyse delinquency data and performance trends to identify ongoing opportunities for strategy optimisations and operational efficiencies
- Ensure robust governance and controls are in place for all collections-related risk activities.
- Monitor portfolio performance versus budget and produce required committee and board reporting and insights
Regulatory & Compliance:
- Ensure full compliance with applicable Australian and New Zealand laws and regulatory guidelines.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with Credit Risk, Product, Operations, Legal, Compliance, and Technology teams to align collections strategies with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Present insights and recommendations to senior leadership and risk committees.
Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor a small team of risk managers / analysts.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Bachelor’s degree in a numeric discipline or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in credit risk management, with a strong focus on collections and recoveries.
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful collections strategies in a financial services environment.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with experience in data-driven decision-making.
- Experience managing third-party vendors or outsourced service providers.
- Deep understanding of regulatory requirements related to collections and credit risk.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
