Salary range $92,600 - $105,064 plus statutory superannuation

If you fit this profile, then you could join the dynamic Investigations Team within the Professional Conduct Branch at VIT with an exciting and challenging mandate to enable quality teaching, and provide for the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

The Investigator role offers an outstanding career opportunity for a professional who is passionate about using their expertise to support VIT in its regulation of Victorian teachers. With knowledge of conducting investigations into professional conduct matters, excellent report writing skills and a strong attention to detail, the role will ensure VIT makes informed decisions about the suitability of teachers to hold registration.

About the role

This role will require you to:

  • Plan and conduct focused and timely investigations, in line with agreed performance measures.
  • Prepare authoritative and high-quality reports, briefs and correspondence on complex issues.
  • Exercise sound professional judgement about the application of legislation and the development of policy options relating to disciplinary matters.
  • Demonstrate accountability in respect of managing risk associated with disciplinary matters.
  • Communicate clearly, effectively and sensitively with stakeholders.
  • Negotiate with stakeholders utilising persuasion.
  • Provide specialist support to Senior Investigators and the Investigations Manager to enable high quality investigations and regulatory enforcement activity to be undertaken within agreed timeframes.
  • Effectively utilise existing systems to capture and record investigation activities and contribute to the development of VIT business systems.
  • Provide support and advice to teachers who are undergoing an assessment or who are the subject of an investigation.

This role will involve exposure to sensitive and objectionable material. Investigators are responsible for investigating allegations of child abuse and neglect, and child sexual abuse.


About you

As an experienced investigator you will have sound and practical knowledge of current government investigative processes.

With experience managing investigations relating to physical or mental health impairments, you will demonstrate a supportive and calm approach to individuals who may be experiencing distress.

As the successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence others in an agreed direction.
  • Excellent organisation and planning skills.
  • Problem solving skills underpinned by sound analytical capability.
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships.
  • Hold a Certificate IV in Government Investigations, or have the ability to attain within 12 months.

We are particularly interested in hearing from investigators or mental health clinicians with experience managing investigations relating to physical and mental health impairments or workers' compensation claims.
