Due to ongoing growth in this business unit, we currently have a great opportunity for a Land Access & Cultural Heritage Officer to join our Sustainability Business Unit in our Australian region. A Perth based role on a Monday-Friday roster with travel as required to our operations, exploration interests in WA & QLD, and local communities.

Accountable to the Superintendent: Land Access and Cultural Heritage, this role is responsible for supporting AngloGold Ashanti in the successful management of Land Access and Cultural Heritage and thereby contribute to the maintenance of our Social License to operate.

Role purpose:

To facilitate the ongoing acceptance of AngloGold Ashanti’s business practices and operating procedures by stakeholders, including Native Title holders, Traditional Owners, landowners, government and the public. This will occur through the provision of Land Access and Cultural Heritage technical support including working at field locations.

Accountabilities:

  • Support the Superintendent in developing (long term planning) and executing land access and cultural heritage management plans – operational and exploration
  • Budget delivery; track expenditures and expenses, assist with re-forecasting, SAP usage
  • In accordance with Cultural Heritage, Support and assist with compliance and qualified personnel, adhere to cultural management plans, co-ordination of surveys
  • Maintain accurate records of engagement activities and stakeholder interactions in the nominated database.
  • Involvement with the negotiation and management of land access agreements including conducting negotiation and management activities directly with stakeholders in field locations.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with Native Title holders, Traditional Owners, non-Indigenous land holders and landowners, government agencies
  • Mitigate possible risks in association with land access and cultural heritage management

About You

  • Previous working experience within Cultural Heritage – both within tangible and intangible
  • A tertiary qualification in a social science discipline would be highly regarded
  • Desire to develop new relationships with local landowners both freehold/leasehold
  • Working knowledge of Australian Native Title requirements.
  • High level understanding of standards relating to Indigenous rights, human rights, preservation of cultural heritage, and land access
  • Ability to engage and negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders to facilitate collaboration and agreement
  • Strong situational awareness and judgement.
  • Proficient in GIS software, preferably ArcGIS and QGIS
  • Microsoft office, systems and reporting proficiencies
  • Full work rights in Australia (Mandatory)
  • A National Police Clearance
