About the Role
As a Library Officer- Aboriginal Family History, you will be responsible for providing a high quality and responsive library service with access to information to all community members, particularly the local Aboriginal Community. A key focus of this role is to facilitate access for customers to a wide range of specialist Aboriginal research resources, sources and online tools to trace their family histories.
Key responsibilities include:
- Nurture and develop relationships with professional, community and government organisation, relevant to Aboriginal Family History Research
- Plan, implement and evaluate Aboriginal Family Research Programs
- Apply a comprehensive understanding of Stolen Generations people, research, impacts and issues
- Build effective relationships with clients using appropriate cultural safety, awareness, empathy and communication skills
- Provide family history research assistance and instruction to the community and library staff in the use of a wide range of information sources, library resources, online databases and public information records

About You
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- Aboriginality is a requirement for this identified position
- Proven experience in translating community needs into strategies and programmes
- Strong commitment to customer service and rapport building techniques
- Shown interest in library functions within the community
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate during times of sensitivity
The successful candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to promoting cultural awareness and inclusive practices within the organisation.
