Primary objective
As a key member of the Occupational Regulation and MigrationNT management team, provide strategic leadership to deliver business and skilled
migration programs in the NT.
Context statement
MigrationNT sits within the Business and Regions division and has carriage of skilled migration programs in the NT. Through the delivery of these
programs, it supports the NT Government’s objectives of achieving economic and population growth.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead and manage the MigrationNT team to deliver business and skilled migration programs in the NT against set targets and provide relevant
information and support services to stakeholders.
2. Train and support MigrationNT team members to assess and decide on relevant applications in a fair and expedient manner
3. Support NT employers, business and industry by providing information on migration services and resolving complex issues in relation to skilled
and business migration applications.
4. Produce high level reports, briefings and correspondence including Ministerial briefings, Legislative Assembly briefs, Cabinet Submissions,
speech notes and research papers.
5. Provide high level advice and subject matter expertise on migration matters to inform and support the broader work of the department
including strategic policy development and worker attraction activities.
6. Establish and maintain effective partnerships, strategic alliances, and networks with key stakeholders both internal and external to the
department.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience, knowledge and understanding of Australia’s migration legislation, policy and business and skilled migration
programs.
2. High level management, leadership, and administration skills with proven ability to lead a diverse team to deliver agreed outcomes.
3. Conceptual and analytical skills to provide practical, evidence-based solutions to complex issues and the management of
information/knowledge systems.
4. Proven ability to work independently or as a team with well-developed organisational skills to manage multiple projects, meet tight deadlines,
and perform at a high standard in a changing environment.
5. Highly developed written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate succinctly for a variety of audiences, and the ability
to effectively negotiate and influence a range of stakeholders.
6. Demonstrated ability to build and sustain constructive and collaborative relationships with team members and external stakeholders, including
all levels of government, businesses and community.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline
2. Hold or eligible to obtain a legal practising certificate or registration as a Migration Agent
3. Hold a current NT Driver License
4. Knowledge of issues and trends relevant to the NT business and economic environment
