About The Role:
This is a part-time, fixed term position to cover sabbatical leave commencing in early August 2025 for a period of up to 11 months within the Department of Neonatal Medicine. The position will cover up to 40 hours per fortnight. The Neonatologist will provide clinical care for all infants admitted to the Butterfly Newborn Intensive Care Unit of the RCH. They will provide leadership in working within a multidisciplinary team, which includes other neonatal consultants and subspecialist consultants throughout the hospital. This involves ensuring the highest quality care, education and research, strong staff engagement and support, and effective relationships with the community and consumers of care.
Classification for this position is in accordance with the Medical Specialists (Victorian Public Health Sector) (AMA Victoria/ASMOF) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2022 – 2026.
What you'll achieve:
- Provide family-centred clinical care for all infants admitted to the NICU of the RCH with the other Neonatal Consultants, shared on a pro-rata basis.
- Provide leadership in working within a multidisciplinary team, which includes other Neonatal Consultants, Neonatal Fellows and Registrars, Nurses, Allied Health Specialists, Ward Clerks, Administrative and Patient Service Assistants, and other subspecialist teams throughout the hospital.
- Contribute to the performance of the Department in line with the Departmental Plan, across the domains of Clinical Excellence, Multidisciplinary Education, Quality Improvement, Research and Staff Wellbeing & Development.
- Actively participate in the teaching & supervision programme of the NICU and contribute to the education of medical students and FRACP candidates.
Your skills and experience
- Specialist registration with AHPRA
- FRACP or equivalent and completion of advanced training in Perinatal/Neonatal Medicine.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a quaternary surgical unit at at least fellow level is essential
- Neonatal consultant experience is highly desirable

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides care for the sickest babies and infants from Victoria, interstate and overseas. With over 800 admissions per year, NICU provides specialised intensive and high dependency care for babies with complex medical and surgical conditions and their families 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
