Your role at St John of God Subiaco Hospital
To support all aspects of patient care during Orthopaedic procedures and to deliver patient centred care in all interactions with our patients.
Our Perioperative Surgical Theatre is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and a highly skilled team of medical professionals to ensure that our Caregivers have everything they need to perform their duties efficiently. This allows them to work seamlessly with the surgical team to provide the best possible care for patients undergoing procedures in our facility.
The Position
- Ensure the maintenance of excellence in the delivery of patient care, through the development and provision of Orthopaedic Resources.
- Liaise and communicate with Surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, technical and support caregivers regarding procedures, patient positioning and related equipment.
- Take directions as instructed within the operating room environment by senior nursing and medical staff.
- Promote policies and procedures relative to Orthopaedic Surgery.
- Ensure that orthopaedic equipment is presented and maintained to ensure correct and safe functioning according to manufacturers guidelines.
- Participate in ongoing education in relation to orthopaedic procedures.
- Identify and acquire loan equipment and materials in liaison with the Clinical Coordinator for specific orthopaedic procedures.
- Ensure that the necessary procedural equipment is obtained from medical companies at least 24 hours prior to procedure.
- Actively participate in trials and evaluation of new equipment.
- Ensure that all orthopaedic equipment has been received and is decontaminated and sterilised according to AS4817 and hospital policies.
- Continually monitor stock levels and report to Clinical Coordinator or portfolio holder.
- Actively participate in procedural discussions with perioperative team and take directions as necessary.
- Act as a resource and troubleshooter for technical equipment relating to orthopaedics and report problems to Clinical Coordinator or Shift Coordinator.
You will have the ability to work as a team member and possess the ability to plan, organise and prioritise work activities. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
To succeed you will have a minimum of three years' orthopaedic surgery experience in an acute setting with a knowledge of orthopaedic equipment and application thereof. A qualification as an Enrolled Nurse, Anaesthetic Technician, or CSSD technician is highly desirable.

- Salary: $79,060 to $87,204 (dependant on experience and qualfication/s), plus 12% superannuation
