Your role:
As a Parachute Rigger, you’ll perform a wide range of technical functions on parachutes and Aerial Delivery Equipment. Parachute Riggers are critical to all Army parachute operations as every parachute packed, repaired and maintained by a Parachute Rigger can affect the safety of others directly in the personnel packing role or indirectly in the cargo packing role. This responsibility is represented by the Parachute Riggers Motto, Be Sure Always.
Your Military duties include, but aren’t limited to:
- conducting maintenance on Aerial Delivery Equipment
- packing personnel, cargo, emergency and extraction parachutes
- repairing parachutes
- maintaining mechanical devices
- manufacturing and/or modifying components of Aerial Delivery Equipment
- maintaining Aerial Delivery Equipment in a detached parachute maintenance unit
Location:
Following training, you could be employed primarily in south-eastern NSW. A junior Parachute Rigger will usually be posted to Nowra, Richmond or Moorebank. Other locations are available to corporal and above riggers in Perth, Wodonga and Melbourne.
Salary:
In the Army you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications. Upon commencing training, your starting salary will be approximately $58,528 per annum plus 16.4% superannuation and your pay will increase as you progress through training.
On completion of your initial military training and initial employment training, you could earn $83,610 per annum plus generous super.
Eligibility:
For this role, you must:
- Be at least 17 years of age when you enter the ADF
- Have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Mathematics (with a physics component)
- Be an Australian citizen. If you are not an Australian Citizen you may still be eligible to join the ADF if you meet certain criteria, please visit the ADF Careers Eligibility Page for more details
- Be reasonably fit and healthy. Keeping fit is a big part of joining the ADF. You’ll need to pass a physical fitness test before you join, but don’t worry, we'll give you tips to help you prepare
- Be able to successfully obtain a security clearance
