About The Role
We are seeking a proactive and safety-focused Permit to Work (PTW) Coordinator to join our Processing team at SIMEC Mining. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient operations by coordinating and embedding our PTW system across all workgroups, including contractors.
As the site-based subject matter expert for the PTW program, you will provide leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to ensure all high-risk activities are planned, authorised, and executed safely. You will be responsible for leading the change management process as this new system is rolled out, supporting shutdowns and daily operations, and ensuring consistency and compliance across the business unit. This role requires a collaborative leader with strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a genuine commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the subject matter expert for the PTW program, providing leadership and guidance across all workgroups.
- Coordinate and monitor the permit process to ensure safe and compliant execution of high-risk activities.
- Review, issue, and track permits, maintaining accurate records of all PTW activities.
- Lead the change management process to embed the PTW system into daily operations.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and training for employees and contractors on PTW compliance and best practices.
- Support hazard identification, audits, and incident investigations to improve PTW outcomes.
- Collaborate with maintenance, planning, WHS, and contractor teams to integrate permits into shutdowns and scheduled work.
- Ensure record-keeping and compliance align with legislative and SIMEC standards.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying gaps, recommending improvements, and sharing best practices across the business.
About You
- Experience in the resources or heavy industry sector, with strong technical capability.
- In-depth understanding of WHS management systems, permit to work processes, and legislative requirements.
- Demonstrated success in leading change management initiatives.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills to influence at all levels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build strong working relationships.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to analyse data and implement pragmatic solutions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; exposure to auditing and WHS qualifications desirable.
- Flexible and adaptable, with a commitment to safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
