About the opportunity
We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher who has a strong research interest and growing reputation in hydrology and water resources with demonstrated interest in applications of data science and modelling. The successful candidate will support the research of Professor Lucy Marshall, Faculty of Engineering and will collaborate with members of her cross-institutional research group.
The successful candidate will be expected to make a vigorous contribution in one or more of the following research areas and contribute to the supervision of PhD and MRes research students:
developing and testing new approaches to water resources modelling,
application of Bayesian inference methods to environmental problems,
machine learning and data science applications,
undertaking analysis and modelling with remote sensing data,
novel approaches to uncertainty quantification, especially as applied to environmental problems.

About you

A PhD awarded or submitted (or near completion), in civil and/or environmental engineering or a closely related area in data science, applied statistics, or geoscience
Demonstrated ability to publish in the scientific literature
Ability to support the Professor’s research program
Ability to assist supervising postgraduate students
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Experience of presenting research results at seminars and/or scientific meetings
Strong written and oral communication skills
Advanced computing skills including in programming in R
You will bring your strong research expertise to a multi-disciplinary team and help the team to develop and evaluate real-world systems for patients and consumers. We are looking both for academic rigour and outputs, as well as proven problem-solving experience, and ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders. You will be a good communicator, passionate about your research, and enjoy working in a dynamic team.
