  • Two-year full time fixed term contract, with a base salary of $105,314 - $122,830 p.a., plus leave loading and a 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Image X Institute is a centre for innovation in radiation therapy and medical imaging technologies. Our research portfolio spans development of new treatment ideas, clinical trials, preclinical imaging, device development, MRI-Physics, radiation therapy physics, and computational physics. We engage with industry, hospitals, international collaborators and universities to forge relationships that help take our projects from lab bench to patient bedside. Here, you will have the opportunity to participate in a wide ranging and multi-disciplinary research program.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate at level A or B to join the Image X Institute , part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health The successful candidate will be led by Prof Paul Keall to investigate generating volumetric images of lung function from daily images taken as standard of care during radiation therapy treatment. In this role you will conduct high-quality research, lead publications, engage in clinical trials and have the opportunity to contribute to and lead research grant submissions.

The successful applicant will assist on a project which aims to reduce radiation toxicity for lung cancer patients and increase eligibility for life-saving immunotherapy by delivering daily imaging of lung function. The emerging radiation therapy paradigm of sparing healthy sections of the lung is hampered by inability to track changing function over the weeks of treatment. The team is uniquely qualified to deliver this by combining recent imaging innovations with expertise in lung function imaging, protecting patients from side effects.

You will benefit from a strong mentoring environment as part of the lung function imaging research stream in the Image X Institute. This project is part of our globally leading CT-ventilation imaging research which includes industry and hospital collaboration, clinical trials and licensed IP. You will be based at South Eveleigh (formerly the Australian Technology Park).

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • undertake original research in developing methods of lung function imaging

  • undertake quantitative data analysis

  • prepare and submit academic journal articles

  • contribute to successful applications for competitive research grants and/ or funding to deliver research impact

  • develop national and international research collaborations

  • disseminate research findings

About you:

  • demonstrated experience or knowledge of one or more of the following:

    • computational algorithm development
