About the Department

The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

About the Division

The Curriculum and Teaching Practice Division (CTPD) works collaboratively across the department, with schools, and with stakeholders to co-design and implement initiatives that support schools to deliver high-quality curriculum and teaching programs. CTPD has primary responsibility for the provision of advice and implementation support to government schools to deliver the Victorian Curriculum. Drawing on contemporary research and practice evidence, CPTD's work contributes to ongoing improvements in student outcomes by flexibly responding to student needs and aspirations, as well as those of school communities.

CTPD has three branches: Literacy, Languages, the Arts and Humanities; Numeracy, STEM and Digital Learning; and Teaching and Learning. Across these branches, key functions include:

  • providing policies and guidance in areas such as assessment and reporting, languages education, Holocaust education, literacy instruction, mathematics and numeracy education, and artificial intelligence
  • developing lesson plans, toolkits and other teaching and learning resources for classroom use
  • designing and delivering high-quality professional learning in key curriculum areas
  • developing and managing the Arc Platform and implementing high-quality teaching and learning software
  • fostering student, family and community engagement through programs like the Premiers' Reading Challenge, Books in Prep Bags, and community language schools.

About the Unit:

The Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Unit:

  • Works closely with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) to develop implementation guidance for schools regarding the Victorian Curriculum Foundation to 10.
  • Leads the policy design and development of implementation guidance for both student assessment and reporting of student achievement and progress against the Victorian Curriculum achievement standards.
  • Supports assessment of student learning in mathematics through provision, quality assurance and enhancement of online assessment tools (on the Insight Assessment Platform) including the Mathematics Online Interview (MOI) and Fractions and Decimals Online Interview (FDOI), along with providing guidance on their use.
  • Leads the procurement for a new numeracy screening tool and Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT) in mathematics and reading, as well as providing guidance and supports on their use.

About the Role

An exciting fixed-term opportunity (until 31 December 2025) is available within the Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Unit, part of the Teaching and Learning branch. The role supports a high-impact team focused on improving teaching practice and student outcomes across Victorian government schools.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting project management through the development of spreadsheets and tracking tools.
