Your role

Are you a driven project professional passionate about making a difference in Aboriginal communities across NSW? The Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO), a division of the Department of Communities and Justice, is seeking a Project Officer to help deliver meaningful housing outcomes.

In this role, you’ll play a vital part in improving AHO services and supporting operational excellence. As part of the role you will be responsible for managing the AHO rent calculator, reviewing and validating rent calculations, assessing requests to reduce market rent, and reporting variances to Regional Managers.

What you’ll do

Lead and support rent management practice across the sector. Working within the Sector Governance and Analysis team, you will:
  • Oversee rent calculations and ensure compliance with the Aboriginal Community Housing Rent Policy (ACHRP).
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert for rent systems including the Aboriginal Housing Rent Management System (AHRMS) and other sector-used systems.
  • Manage and maintain the rent calculator including thresholds, Centrelink rate updates, and system enhancements.
  • Provide direct support, training, and guidance to Aboriginal Community Housing Providers (ACHP’s) and internal staff.
  • Drive continuous improvement and enhancements to rent systems and processes.

What we’re looking for

  • Demonstrated experience using the Rent Calculator in a housing or policy setting.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality reports and updates.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
