About the role
The Reinsurance and Product Development Lead role is an exciting and newly created opportunity working in our Product Centre team – within the Risk, Insurance and Claims Solutions (RICS) division.
You are accountable for ensuring delivery of prioritised product or solution development opportunities, developing and maintaining frameworks to manage the product lifecycle and delivering reinsurance programs in line with strategic objectives.
The Reinsurance and Product Development Lead role is an exciting and newly created opportunity working in our Product Centre team – within the Risk, Insurance and Claims Solutions (RICS) division.
You are accountable for ensuring delivery of prioritised product or solution development opportunities, developing and maintaining frameworks to manage the product lifecycle and delivering reinsurance programs in line with strategic objectives.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
- Coordinate the development of risk transfer solutions aligned with sector-specific strategies.
- Support data gathering and analysis to inform risk transfer decisions and product design.
- Help develop and maintain frameworks and processes to manage the product lifecycle
- Oversee the design, negotiation, and placement of VMIA's reinsurance programs, including development of reinsurance presentations, submissions and underwriting data.
- Monitor reinsurance performance, ensuring alignment with capital management objectives and product requirements.
- Support reinsurance-related reporting, administration, and major recovery activity as required.
- Lead the delivery of VMIA's annual premium and cover benchmarking.
To be successful, you will need to work collaboratively with Industry Sector Practices and the Service & Delivery teams to support product implementation and client-focused outcomes as well as support a constructive, resilient team culture through collaboration, knowledge-sharing and adaptability.

What we are looking for
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) with your ability to engage and interact and present to a variety of stakeholders across all levels.
- Proven ability to navigate complex environments and stakeholders.
- Experience in developing innovative risk transfer solutions or experience with re/insurance program design and placement.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant general insurance and industry experience.
- Project management experience / qualification. (Desirable)
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, Actuarial or related field.
- Certified member of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) or equivalent. Fit and proper person under APRA guidelines.
