Primary objective
Provide advice and executive support in developing and implementing project plans, policies, and procedures with a focus
on school improvement aligned with agreed agency strategies, while also supporting managers and staff on Department of
Education and Training (DET) legislative requirements across key operational areas.
Context statement
The Remote Schools Support Unit (RSSU) provides targeted assistance to schools across all aspects of operations, including
teaching and learning, operational, logistics, infrastructure, recruitment, and staff development.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high level professional secretariat advice and support on information management, quality assurance and
coordination to the Director of Remote Schools, the RSSU and 21 Remote School Principals.
2. Provide high level advice and support to managers and staff on policies, procedures and legislative requirements across
key operational areas of the agency, including recruitment systems and procedures.
3. Provide advice to managers, selection panels and prospective recruits on legislation, relocation entitlements, merit
selection and recruitment processes.
4. Provide project management support through the preparation of reports, provision of advice on activities and the
facilitation of stakeholder communication and consultation.
5. Provide regular HR reports to the RSSU and Principals to support recruitment forecasting and respond to requests for
corporate HR data and reporting.
6. Any other duties as directed by the Director Remote Schools, Central Region.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Extensive experience providing consultancy and advisory support in recruitment and workforce management, with a
strong understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and administrative frameworks—particularly within complex and
diverse environments.
2. Demonstrated project management and analytical skills, including experience investigating, managing, and reporting on
complex issues, recommending strategies, and adapting effectively to changing priorities.
3. Well-developed interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including high-level report writing, with a proven
ability to build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
4. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to interpret information, provide clear and concise
advice, and tailor communication for diverse audiences.
5. Demonstrated reliability, initiative, and high-level organisational skills, with a strong commitment to accuracy, attention
to detail, confidentiality, discretion and professional ethics.
