We have an exciting opportunity available for an excellent communicator who is interested in joining the Research & Development (R&D) team based at our Penrith facility.

The Research and Development Manager – Vaccines is responsible for leading the R&D vaccine scientists and overseeing projects related to the development and in-licensing of new or improved vaccines for livestock and companion animals that address market needs in the Pacific region.

The key areas of accountability for this role include but are not limited to:

· Provide ongoing support, feedback and coaching to direct reports in order to ensure they meet the expectations of performance, and to develop and support them in their role.

· Serve as an internal technical expert in vaccine development with a strong focus on live and killed viral vaccines, applying this expertise to the Pacific Region and across Virbac subsidiaries, particularly in Uruguay and France.

· Lead and contribute to the planning and execution of new vaccine projects. Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Oversee team performance and ensure accountability and delivery of assigned tasks.

· Maintain laboratory to a standard consistent with GLP principles, EHS Virbac policies.

· Lead in-vitro test development programme to achieve strategic goals and project plan.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

· PhD in Science (Virology preferred, or Microbiology)

· Minimum of 3 years previous experience in the field of vaccine research and development in Animal health industry or Human Health industry

· Experience in emerging infectious diseases and/or veterinary public health is considered an asset (e.g., Schmallenberg, Bluetongue, Foot-and-Mouth Disease)

· Proficient in Combistats, PLA and GraphPad Prism software’s

· Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

· Excellent written and oral communication skills

· Ability to adhere to deadlines

The following are very highly regarded:

· Fluency in French is preferred, as the role involves regular communication with technical experts at various levels within the Bio R&D headquarters in France, who may not be fluent in English

· Notions of Spanish are an asset (to be able to collaborate with Virbac Bio R&D South America)

· Knowledge of HR practices related to people management and the ability to manage individuals and teams

· Experience working in the development and industrialisation of vaccine processes

· Experience working in a central or national reference laboratory
