- Working with Children Check Clearance
- First Aid Certificate or willingness to undertake First Aid training.
- Administration of Medications – training to be provided based on student needs.
- Adherence to NSW Health Category A Vaccination requirements
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively as part of a team.
- Administration skills including a knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft Office.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with teachers and students.
- Ability to perform tasks in one or more of the following areas: office procedures; accounting procedures; sick bay; hospitality and /or design and technology; science.
Conditions
All Department of Education employees working in an SSP are required to be vaccinated as outlined at Vaccination requirements for school sites (nsw.gov.au). The successful candidate for this position will be required to confirm vaccination status prior to the department finalising their appointment and entry on duty. At John Hunter Hospital School, we empower and nurture successful pathways for all through innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
The Hospital School is located in Newcastle, at the John Hunter Children's Hospital, serving a diverse regional population. Students may have varying lengths of hospital stays and some students may have recurring admissions. Students are hospitalised due to illness, trauma, medical procedures and/or psychological disorders.
The John Hunter Hospital School provides access to curriculum and wellbeing support, for young people in Kindergarten to year 12. Our students may be admitted to hospital due to illness, accident or trauma, mental health or for medical procedures. We also provide support to siblings of young people receiving care. The school works with a wide range of stakeholders including medical, allied health, families/carers, community partners and census schools.
The school's central purpose is to provide an engaging, stimulating and supportive environment, assisting students maintain educational continuity and experience a smooth transition back to their census school. For students who are hospitalised for extended periods, a planned and supported transition program is offered.
