The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.
About the role
The Community Programs Branch is a part of the consumer affairs portfolio within the department. It manages a range of programs that are delivered to Victorians experiencing vulnerability including the financial counselling, renting and consumer programs. The team also oversees the Victorian Property Fund grants program.
The Sector Policy Lead will assist the Manager, Financial Counselling Policy in the development of a Financial Counselling Strategy for Victoria. The role will allow you to utilise your experience in policy development, strong interpersonal skills and commitment to collaboration in achieving the Consumer Affairs Victoria's objectives.
The role will be responsible for supporting the development of policy and informing projects, including:
- Providing well informed, reasoned and concise advice, recommendations and innovative policy options and support the delivery of initiatives in the Community Programs Branch.
- Contributing to research and policy work to provide advice and support to the Minister and DGS Executives, including the preparation of cabinet submissions, reports and briefs for a wide range of audiences.
- Providing critical analysis and input to Cabinet processes and major DGS reforms from a Consumer Affairs Victoria perspective.
About you
To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate:
Mandatory
- Extensive experience in developing policy and strategy in a public sector and/or industry environment combined with a broad understanding of the mechanisms and processes of government
- Experience leading complex policy and/or legislative reform projects
Desirable
- Knowledge of the Financial Counselling sector in Victoria
