About the opportunity
Reporting to the ‘Group Financial Reporting Manager’ who started in a similar role to this 8 years ago before being promoted twice up to the leadership level.
Your role is to perform a range of financial reporting activities which are pivotal in the preparation and satisfaction of regulatory requirements, including month end tasks, half-yearly and yearly financial statements, board and audit committee papers and reporting to the Minister.
You’ll also
• Perform month-end accounting activities including the upload of journals, preparation of the fixed asset roll-forward and the preparation of aspects of board reporting
• Provide detailed technical financial accounting advice to business and finance stakeholders, particularly around revenue recognition, capitalization, leasing, accruals and provisions
• Develop and maintain accounting policies in accordance with the requirements of the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASBs) and best practice corporate governance principles. Ensure these policies are consistent across Australia Post's Group structure
• Preparation of quarterly Ministerial reporting and reporting to the Australian Bureau of Statistics
• Preparation of aspects of the consolidated group result including reporting to internal and external stakeholders
• Provide assistance to subsidiaries in regards to financial accounting requirements, month-end procedures and governance issues
• Draft high-quality communication to Board, Risk and other Committees on financial results
• Identification and management of process improvements in respect of the organisation’s financial reporting framework
• Monitor and manage the internal control framework in relation to financial reporting
Play a role in the adoption of any new accounting and sustainability reporting standards, involve in the adoption of the new Commonwealth Climate Disclosures and Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards
About you
• Experience in applicable business/functional domain related to finance
• Demonstrated technical knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards & Corporations Act and great understanding of business and financial risk
• Preparing large complex financial statements (group and subsidiaries level)
• Experience with financial systems in a large organisation, together with high level PC skills (particularly Microsoft Excel) and extracting data fromTM1, SAP or other data analysis software or systems
• Experience in ERP system implementation activities would be an advantage
• Membership to an Accounting professional accreditation (CA/CPA)
