Primary objective
Provision of specialist mental health interventions and advice for Primary Health providers, assessment of mental state, risk,
develop client focused interventions and plans within the Recovery framework model with supervision and support from
more senior clinicians.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provision of high-level clinical services of mental health assessment and treatment options to targeted clients.
2. Provision of support and education to clients and General Practitioner around mental health issues and service provisions
in a timely manner.
3. Contribute to the development of contemporary models of care within the Top End Mental Health Service and champion
the development of improvements in the safety and quality of services delivered in the community.
4. Maintain high standards in report writing, electronic record keeping, and file maintenance and quality assurance in service
delivery.
5. Follow defined service quality standards, Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
6. Foster a positive workplace culture through role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Recognised degree in Occupational Therapy, Psychology or Social Work with registration to practice as an Occupational
Therapist or Psychologist or eligibility for practicing membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
2. Demonstrated, recent clinical experience in the mental health assessment, treatment and rehabilitation methods
appropriate to people being managed in the community.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of current issues, standards and trends in the delivery of mental health services.
4. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, carers and other professionals from diverse cultural
backgrounds and to prepare written reports of a high standard and ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary
team.
5. Proficiency in and commitment to, the use of electronic information systems for the maintenance of clinical and service
delivery records.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of the relevant legislation guiding clinical practice for this position, specifically the Mental Health and Related
Services Act.
2. Current Northern Territory drivers’ licence or ability to obtain.
