Classification: ANU Officer 7 (Technical)
Salary package: $105,219 - $110,489 per annum plus 17% superannuation
Terms: Full time, Fixed term (up to 4 months)
The Position
The role provides expert services within the Australian National Fabrication Facility Precision Optics group in support of the LIGO Big Beam Splitter fabrication contract and covers Ion Beam Sputtering coating design, modelling, fabrication and metrology at the highest levels of performance. Work is performed in a class 100 clean room.
The Person
Demonstrated expertise in optical coating design, fabrication by ion beam sputtering using ellipsometric optical monitoring and substrate/coating metrology is mandatory in this role, all at ultra-high performance levels. Clean room skills and experience in clean handling for large high value substrates are needed as well as mechanical design and automation skills including software numerical modelling and control systems. An honours degree in Physics or related Engineering disciplines is required.

The Research School of Physics is a leading centre of Physics research in Australia. Researchers have a tradition of excellence in addressing the world’s most pressing research and development issues across a wide range of disciplines, including internationally important high precision optical instrumentation such as LIGO and the VLTI telescope array. The Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF) is a Federal government sponsored and supported initiative under the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Scheme to provide Australian industry and researchers with access to leading edge fabrication facilities. The Research School of Physics hosts the ANFF's primary node for optical fabrication, ANFF OptoFab ACT. The node has ~A$22m of optical fabrication equipment for high precision optical coating, freeform polishing, freeform diamond turning, glass molding and Integrated optical circuit fabrication.
