About the role

TAFE NSW is looking for individuals with current industry experience and knowledge in either the Sports Turf, Greenkeeping, Horticulture and Landscaping industry to work as a Technical Officer on a permanent basis based at the Ryde Campus.

The Technical Officer is responsible for supporting the delivery of education services through the maintenance of delivery locations and equipment, preparation and distribution of teaching resources and other related support and administrative functions.

About You

The role of a Technical Officer in Sports Turf Management requires a self-motivated starter with sports turf and horticultural skills along with effective communication skills and an eye for detail.

At TAFE NSW Ryde Campus the Technical Officer's duties encompass the maintenance of various sports surfaces, including a bowling green, two golf greens, fairway and cricket wickets ensuring they meet the specific standards of maintenance. This involves:

  • Using plant and equipment for precision cutting of sports turf surfaces
  • Monitoring and implementation of pest disease and weed control programs to meet specific turfgrass and site requirements
  • Monitoring of sports turf areas and scheduling of irrigation to maintain playing surfaces to industry standards
  • Irrigation system maintenance and repairs
  • Compliance with relevant legislation in chemical selection application and recordkeeping

The Technical Officer role also supports the delivery team where preparation of turf areas is required for teacher directed class activities. Crucially, you are someone who shares the TAFE NSW Values of Integrity, Collaboration, Excellence and Customer First.

To be successful in this role you must have:

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and experience in the use of equipment to manage sports turf and lawn areas
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and experience of use, care and maintenance of tools, equipment, materials and techniques used in sports turf management area applicable to the role
  • Hold a current Chemical application ticket AQF3 level or above
  • Proven ability to create, modify or adapt equipment or other resources to meet requirements
  • Demonstrated organisational skills and ability to work as a member of a team with minimal supervision in area relating to the role.
