Role Description/Criteria
The Vocational Education and Training (VET) Coordinator is a key member of the Curriculum Team working collaboratively to promote a whole-school approach to vocational education, workplace learning, and senior student pathways. Saint Ignatius College is committed to delivering a high-quality VET program that equips students with practical skills, industry experience, and viable post-school options, including School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs).
The VET Coordinator provides leadership in the planning, implementation, and review of vocational programs, including policy development, enrolments, administration, counselling, and program evaluation. They oversee student participation in VET and SBAT pathways, offering guidance and pastoral support throughout their vocational journey. Programs are designed to reflect best practice, current research, and industry needs, preparing students for successful transitions beyond school.
In partnership with the Careers and Pathways Coordinator, the VET Coordinator ensures programs remain responsive to evolving state and national priorities. The role involves strong collaboration with staff, families, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), and external agencies to deliver effective, student-centered, and future-focused vocational learning opportunities.
Essential Key Selection Criteria:
1. Hold a current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration or equivalent.
2. Possess relevant qualifications in Education and/or Career Development.
3. Demonstrated experience in leading and managing VET and/or SBAT programs within a secondary school setting.
4. Strong knowledge of the VET sector, including frameworks such as the VET in Schools (VETiS) model, SBAT processes, VCE VM, VASS, and compliance with VCAA/VRQA/ASQA requirements.
5. Proven ability to provide individualised pathway planning and support to students undertaking vocational programs.
6. Experience working with students, families, and staff to promote successful student outcomes through vocational and applied learning.
7. Demonstrated capacity to coordinate enrolments, compliance documentation, USIs, RTO communications, and VASS data management.
8. High-level organisational and administrative skills, including accurate record-keeping and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
9. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain partnerships with RTOs, TAFEs, industry representatives, families, and external agencies.
10. A demonstrated commitment to Catholic education and the Ignatian charism, with a willingness to support the College’s faith life, uphold its mission, and promote holistic student formation through faith, service, and excellence.
Employment: Ongoing. Full-time, three-year fixed-term appointment as VET Coordinator (POL 2), with 12 lessons per cycle and an ongoing teaching position. The leadership role will be reviewed at the end of the term, with potential for reappointment.
Commencement Date: 27th January 2026.
