Benalla P-12 College is located in the Rural City of Benalla which is ideally located close to the Victorian snowfields and the major centres of Wangaratta and Shepparton. The town is surrounded by quality wineries and a variety of natural environments, with the Murray River only an hour away. Melbourne is easily reached in two hours along the Hume Freeway and the Melbourne to Wodonga railway line also runs through the city.

Benalla P-12 College was established in January 2013 as a result of the merger of all four government schools in Benalla. The College has a student population of approximately 870. We provide a vibrant teaching and stimulating learning environment that commences with Grade Prep and continues through the secondary years to VCE and VCAL.

Our College structure from 2025 will have 3 separate sites across the town:

Avon Campus (P-5)
Waller Campus (P-6)
Faithfull Campus (7-12)

Each site has an Assistant Principal and there is also a College Principal.

Students are well-known by their teachers at Benalla P-12 College, and high priority is placed on student wellbeing. We have a strong team of experienced and effective wellbeing staff to support our students to be at their best and ready to learn each and every day.

Staff at Benalla P-12 College work in teams and Professional Learning Communities. They plan collaboratively and use data to inform their teaching practice in line with our evidence based Teaching Cycle.

Selection Criteria

KSC 1 Demonstrated experience and skills in managing a specific education function.

KSC 2 Demonstrated capacity to supervise the work of other support staff and to develop procedures and guidelines relating to the work area.

KSC 3 Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills.

KSC 4 Possesses the technical knowledge and expertise relevant to the position.

KSC 5 Demonstrated capacity to provide advice and support to management in respect to the work area.

KSC 6 Demonstrated commitment to professional learning and growth for both self and others.

Role

Attendance for duty during school holiday periods is not required for this position.

Benalla P-12 College is an inclusive school with a strong focus on the values of Respect, Responsibility, Integrity and High Expectations.

A whole of community approach ensures that staff, students and volunteers work collaboratively to build a vibrant and dynamic school culture where students thrive and flourish.

The student Wellbeing Officer is responsible for overseeing all matters pertaining to student welfare on the relevant campus.

This person liaises directly with the Campus Assistant Principal in the first instance and also liaises closely with the Principal Class Officer responsible for Student Engagement and Wellbeing. The Student Wellbeing Officer also works closely with the School Nurse, Disability Inclusion Coordinator and Sub School Leaders. This person will develop close links with external agencies.

The Student Wellbeing Officer also works closely with teachers who have welfare responsibilities including classroom teachers and mentors. Integral to this role is an appreciation of the age-specific or developmental needs of students, as well as the ability to develop welfare programs and management strategies to cater professionally for these needs.

Responsibilities

Work closely with the Campus Assistant Principal, Sub School Leaders, Mentor teachers and classroom teachers in all matters related to student welfare.

Develop special school programs which address the health and personal development needs of students.

Work with the school nurse and personnel from external agencies to assist in the management of resolution of welfare issues.

Coordinate all referrals to external agencies in all matters related to student welfare.

Other duties at the discretion of the Principal.
