About the role
The Youth Engagement and Connections Officer plays a pivotal role in fostering inclusive, supportive, and engaging environments that provide young people with meaningful opportunities for social connection, community participation and personal development. This role is responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating a range of programs, activities, and events for young people aged 12 to 25 across multiple settings including youth hubs, school-based engagements, and community activations. Drop in programs are facilitated at various locations across the municipality with the primary hub locations being The Nest Youth Hub in Central Geelong and The fOrT Youth Centre in Norlane.
Work type: Permanent Full Time
Classification: Band 5 Commencing at $81,005 pa plus super
Key responsibilities include:
- Plan, deliver and evaluate programs and events that are youth informed and address the needs of young people in collaboration with other team members in the Youth Development Unit.
- Oversee and supervise groups of young people, ensuring effective risk management and incident handling in alignment with relevant City policies and procedures.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and develop partnerships with youth focused services and organisations across the municipality.
- Undertake after-hours and weekend work as required to support operational needs and ensure service continuity.
About you
The ideal candidate for this role will have experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds. You will possess a warm, caring and engaging personality, with a high level of resilience and the confidence to work autonomously and make decisions utilising your professional judgement. You will have a keen eye for detail, demonstrate initiative and creativity in your work and be willing to roll up your sleeves and get involved!
Essential Experience:
- Relevant qualification in Community Services, Social Work, Youth Work or related field and/or some relevant professional experience in a comparable organisation.
- Current Victorian Working with Childrens Check (Employee) and a valid Drivers Licence.
- Experience in the development and implementation of community development and/or youth programs.
- Knowledge of youth participation and engagement frameworks with demonstrated skills in co-design.
- Proven stakeholder management skills and the ability to work collaboratively to deliver quality outcomes.
- Preferred candidate will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
