Sydney Children's Hospitals Network is the largest paediatric health care entity in Australia. We care for thousands of children each year in our hospitals and in their homes — with one purpose in mind — to help young people live their healthiest lives.

New Street Services provide therapeutic services across NSW for children and young people aged 10 to 17 years who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviours towards others, and their families and caregivers. New Street Services prioritise Aboriginal young people. All New Street employees are trained and committed to ensuring cultural safety. Identified Aboriginal Counsellor Positions are in place at every New Street Service as part of this commitment. New Street services are part of NSW Health’s Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN).

We are looking for an Aboriginal clinician or consultant to join the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network ‘Children and Young People’s Sexual Safety’ team (CYPSS) in North Parramatta. You will work closely with CYPSS team members to develop key support, therapeutic practice, education and training for people working with children and families. You will provide cultural and therapeutic support for Aboriginal New Street clinicians across NSW as key focus of this role. You will also work together with other members of the CYPSS team to influence how services respond to children displaying problematic and harmful sexual behaviours (PHSB), and sexual assault more broadly. This position provides a unique opportunity to positively influence the NSW Health system to improve outcomes for Aboriginal children and families. The scope of this role also includes:

Providing strategic and clinical advice regarding Aboriginal wellbeing, trauma and healing frameworks and their application in relation to PHSB.

Play a leading role in statewide cultural safety, workforce capacity building and system improvement projects in collaboration with Ministry of Health Programs Delivery Office and PARVAN teams.

Participate in the development of cultural consultation and advice, cultural supervision and training for Aboriginal staff in PARVAN services and to CYPSS workforces.

Provide input and support in the development and implementation of consistent and coordinated policies, practices, systems, models of care and reporting which apply to Aboriginal children and families and PHSB that are culturally safe.

Working together with related Aboriginal workforces in the NSW Health PARVAN sector.

This opportunity provides room for you to bring your skills, passion and cultural lens to help ensure the delivery of culturally safe programs. The intention of these programs is to bring culture into therapeutic processes. This position connects with the Aboriginal Clinical Advisor for the Safe Wayz Program who is also in the CYPSS team and the Clinical Advisor, Aboriginal wellbeing, trauma and healing at the NSW Ministry of Health. The CYPSS team is part of The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN). The Aboriginal Clinical Advisor position is connected to the wider SCHN Aboriginal Workforce and supported by the SCHN Aboriginal Health Directorate.
